Grace's story
First of all, I must say my life has hardly been easy. I was molested at age 6 and it continued for about 5 yrs. My mother was a heroin addict and my father was never around. My mother and I lived on the streets for a few years. We moved from abandoned apartments to an abandoned mortuary and even roof tops in downtown from time to time. I was lost in a world of hatred, drugs, and selfishness. Eventually this road lead me to an abusive relationship and 3 precious children I had no clue how to raise. But I am here to tell you some good news...
"I began to pay attention the to the Lord and full of a new faith I took a blind step and found myself away from everything I knew and in a city I've never been before...Emily's Place in Plano, TX - part of the Dallas Providence Homes."
This house has become something to me I never knew existed, it became a home. And I have been able to overcome so much of this past through counseling, but more importantly nurturing in the word of God. I have become a parent I've always dreamed of having. In the past I have ended up in a few shelters, but I have never met a group of people like this. People who care so deeply. They are working with people in the best way possible, with God's help! And I have seen such a change in my life and my children's life. I am even teaching my daughters Sunday School Class this Sunday. She will be able to learn about God from me!
I would not know a thing about the bible if it wasn't for this ministry! They have become a good Samaritan to me when my own family had better things to do. They took me in and they are nurturing my soul back to life with the words of God.
I could never thank this ministry enough. If it wasn't for their love of people and their heart for the Lord I would not have had the shelter and guidance I needed to press on, live in peace with my past, and continue to grow in the Light of the Lord.
"In a world full of tools Satan has at his disposal, this program is a tool God uses to deliver His people out of the world and into salvation. In my opinion the world needs more tools like this!"
Sheila's Story
Consider the changes in Sheila's life. She came to us from an emergency shelter after a lifetime of spousal and drug abuse. She was 49 years old but was only processing information on a 6th grade level. At one point she had lived in a cardboard box. Sheila came to us as a non-believer, with only the clothes on her back, no front teeth, and no self-esteem. During her two years with us, she experienced remarkable growth. She dedicated her life to Christ, and, after graduation, she spoke in front of an audience of 250 people and gave her testimony. Since we were able to send her to the dentist, she also had new teeth to compliment her beautiful smile.
"This home has given me a hope for the future. God only knows where I would be," Shiela says. "You feel nothing but love here."
Shiela is currently working full-time at Hobby Lobby and is sharing an apartment with a friend.
Anne's Story
When Anne first came to us, she could not sit in the same room with a male, let alone sit in a group environment and carry on a conversation. After being with us for nearly two years, she has been clean and sober and had graduated from cosmetology school. When we had a party to celebrate her completion of the program, she told us that this was the first time she had ever completed anything in her life.
"While living at the house, I have been able to heal spiritually, emotionally, and mentally" Anne says. "I would not have made it if it were not for Dallas Providence Homes. My life has changed for the better."
Anne passed her state boards and is currently employed in a salon in Addison.
